Plea for dog laws review after Yarloop attack

A Yarloop mother and former vet nurse is calling for stricter dog laws and more protection for dog attack victims after her dog was viciously mauled by another dog that escaped from its front yard. Natalie Jones was walking her dog Lulu last month on Clifton Road in Yarloop, when the escaped dog started attacking her 10-year-old one-eyed pug cross cavalier. It was one of three confirmed dog attacks in the Shire of Harvey that week. “I was on the phone to my mum at the time and I just started screaming. “My poor mum who is 70 heard the whole thing.” Mrs Jones claims the dog attacked with no warning. “I had Lulu on a lead, was just 20m from my house and I didn’t even have a chance to register what was going on. “It grabbed her on her rear end and ripped her out of her collar and lead and I was screaming get off. “I tried to free Lulu because she was getting dragged back into her driveway of the attacking dog.” Mrs Jones claims the attacking dog hit a fence so hard it knocked off the bottom pole of a three-pronged fence. “Lulu was yelping and I saw the big rip on her leg and I could see the blood pouring down the back of her legs. The Yarloop resident said she put Lulu in the car and went straight to the vet. The vet bill has so far reached $1700. The Harvey Shire Council confirmed the attack and said it had investigated the incident.
