Shire of Harvey calls for nominations for new Cemetery Advisory Group as part of five year cemetery strategy

Residents in three Shire of Harvey localities are being urged to put their hand up for a new council advisory body.
Nominations are now open for community members to join the Shire’s Cemetery Advisory Group, with a total of four positions available.
Two of the positions are reserved for Harvey residents, while one position each is reserved for a resident of Australind and Cookernup.
The positions’ reservation are in line with the location of the Shire’s four cemeteries.
The group will advise the council on initiatives and strategies for the burial locations, with the aim of addressing issues related to their management and protecting heritage alongside helping with future planning and development.
Councillors Amanda Lovitt and Wendy Dickinson will be inaugural elected members on the group, with three Shire of Harvey staff and one funeral industry representative set to make the other positions.
The advisory group was formed as a part of the Shire of Harvey’s new five year cemetery strategy, which was approved by the council at the meeting on September 20. It will meet at least twice a year.
Applications are open until November 18. Nomination forms are available at harvey.wa.gov.au
