Shire of Harvey extends prohibited burning period by fortnight

Shire of Harvey residents will have to wait until the end of this month to apply for burning permits after the summer fire ban was extended. The council extended its prohibited burning period, which was set to finish on Tuesday, by two weeks on March 13. It will now end at midnight on Tuesday, March 28. Burning garden waste, grass, paddocks, bushland or a bonfire is banned during the prohibited burning period. Using wood and solid fuel barbecues is also banned when the fire danger is high or above, or when a total fire ban is declared. From March 29 to May 15, wood and solid fuel barbecue use and burning of garden waste will be permitted only between 6pm and 11pm. A permit will be needed to burn grass, paddocks or bushland or to light a bonfire. The Shire of Waroona’s green waste disposal area in Preston Beach will not open until Tuesday, April 11, on the advice of Waroona chief bushfire control officer Steve Thomas.
