Shire of Harvey named finalist at Community Achievement Awards and plans to become “most accessible community”

The Shire of Harvey is one step closer to its goal of becoming regional WA’s “most accessible community” after being named a finalist in the State’s biggest Community Achievement Awards. The Shire’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan was recognised at the October 15 ceremony in the Making A Difference award category for its collaborative efforts to ensure positive outcomes for WA’s regional communities and empowering people with disability. Shire president Paul Gillett said the nomination recognised the Shire’s ongoing aspiration to become the most accessible community in regional WA. Implemented in July this year, the shire’s AIP outlines commitments to working collaboratively with the access community, to ensure future facilities and services are accessible and inclusive for all abilities. The Shire of Bruce Rock won the DLGSC category of the CAA, with the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup being the only other South West Shire to make it as a finalist.
