Shire of Waroona adopts Lake Clifton master plan

Lake Clifton is on track to receive some major upgrades to its community centre. The Shire of Waroona voted unanimously at its meeting last month to support the new Lake Clifton master plan, which will bring some much-needed upgrades to the quiet hamlet’s community centre. The shire approached Lake Clifton locals in April about plans for the area, which include adding landscaping, barbecues, exercise stations, shaded playgrounds and upgrades to existing basketball and tennis courts. The barbecue area and court expansions have taken top priority, with hopes of locking in $350,000 in the coming election cycle to deliver them. The shire received feedback from 57 residents, 41 of which were children. They pushed for the plans to include a nature-based playground instead of a traditional playground and outdoor lighting. Shire president Mike Walmsley said it was exciting to see the plans progressing and hoped the shire would be able to deliver more “vibrancy” to the area. “Lake Clifton has seen a slight lift in population, so it’s timely we are starting to look more at community infrastructure in the region,” he said. “Waroona town has seen quite a bit in recent years, so we’re hoping Lake Clifton will be able to get some love.” He said the development was still dependent on funding but was hopeful the project could become an election commitment. “This is very high on our wishlist of items we’d like to see funded this election cycle,” he said. “So hopefully we can get it started.”
