Shires of Harvey, Waroona receive $25,000 for trail plans as part of the WA Trail Planning Grants Program

A South West and Peel council have shared in funding to increase the number of walking and hiking trails in the State. The Shires of Harvey and Waroona have both received $25,000 from the State Government as part of the latest round of the WA Trail Planning Grants program. The grants will be used to help plan for additional trails within both councils. A spur from the Munda Biddi Trail connecting it to the Harvey townsite will be the focus for the Shire of Harvey’s grant, while the Shire of Waroona will use their grant funding on an evaluation for stage five of the council’s Lakes Trail. Sport Minister David Templeman said trails had clear social and economic benefits for communities and regional tourism. “With the increasing demand for trails across Western Australia, it is important that we provide the best trail experience to both locals and visitors,” he said. “Tourism is now playing a more significant role in the development of trails, as visitors look for interesting, challenging, authentic and unique experiences as part of their holidays and travels.” Sixteen organisations received funding, totaling more than $331,000.
