Social session to swoop on members
If you were once able to bend it like Beckham and think you’ve still got what it takes, Friday night could be your time to shine.
The Harvey Hawks Football Club is holding a social session to ease the club’s senior side into some pre-season work, while letting new and old players have a go to see if they want to join the team at any level.
“We are happy to have anybody with any experience, from six to 60 years old, to come and have a play and help build the sport in Harvey,” coach Leigh Vaughan said.
The Hawks recruitment area stretches from Australind to Waroona and unlike clubs in bigger towns, the team doesn’t hold trials and won’t turn away anybody who is keen to join.
“We have the philosophy that this is a community club as much as anything else,” Vaughan said.
“We just want to grow the game.”
Vaughan said he hoped there would be enough interest to have a dedicated women’s side this season, which the team had been unable to do last year.
“We really want to take the club forward.”
Training kicks off at 5.30pm Friday at the Hawks football grounds at Meriden Park on the corner of Uduc and Hinge roads.
