South West’s Eagles stars celebrate win over Kangaroos as Amiss’ single goal not enough for Dockers

The region’s West Coast Eagles players are expected to be in a good mood following the side’s victory at the weekend, with Brady Hough, Reuben Ginbey and Clay Hall all featuring in the clash. The trio travelled to Hobart to match up against North Melbourne at Blundstone Arena on Saturday — a match which was by no means a certain victory for the visitors. Despite leading for most of the first quarter, the Eagles trailed by the middle of the third before mounting a slow comeback which saw the side regain the lead with just minutes left in the match to win 15.12 (102) 14.13 (97). In his second match after being promoted to the AFL, Hall got his first taste of adding to the Eagles’ scoreboard, kicking a behind in the first quarter. He notched seven disposals and laid a tackle. Fellow Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault product Hough managed five tackles of his own — his highest since West Coast’s round 16 clash against Hawthorn. He gathered 15 disposals during the game. After some career-best results in the Eagles’ last home game against Gold Coast, Ginbey had a more average week on the field, managing 14 disposals and four tackles. Fremantle Dockers suffered their second defeat against top-four contenders Geelong at Optus Stadium on Saturday. The Cats were dominant in the first half, before the Dockers stepped up in the second. However, Geelong were too strong and sealed Fremantle’s fate with a lead-extending goal in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, making it 10.13 (73) to 9.8 (62) at the final siren. Busselton’s Jye Amiss only managed one goal and one behind during the game, and nine disposals. This weekend, the Dockers fly to Sydney to face Greater Western Sydney, while the Eagles meet Carlton in Perth.
