SWFL men’s: Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault maintain top spot on ladder with 30-point win over Dunsborough

Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault maintained top spot on the South West Football League ladder with a 30-point victory over Dunsborough at Dunsborough Playing Fields on Sunday. The brave Sharks capitalised on their limited opportunities but the quality of the Lions eventually got them over the top in a 11.15 (81) to 8.3 (51) win. A fast start saw the hosts head into quarter-time with a seven-point lead after kicking four straight goals, while the visitors could manage only two majors from their seven scoring shots. Derek Hall’s side then got to work, taking an eight-point lead into the main break after a four-goal to two second term and extending their lead by stacking on five goals to Dunsborough’s two over the course of the second half. The Lions’ big stars again shone brightly, with Jarrod Humphries booting five more goals to give him a total of 20 from only three games. Blake Offer chimed in with three of his own to take his tally to 12, while stars Ty Anderson and Connor Carbone were again exceptional in the middle. The day was not as positive for the club’s women’s side, who were held scoreless in a 34-point defeat to the Sharks. A 28-point win over Collie in round two meant the Lions came in full of confidence but they found the going tough against the undefeated ladder leaders, who had conceded only 14 points in their two previous games. Vice captain Latisha Hough was again named among the best players, alongside Abbeygail Jones, Zoe Roberts and Katie Wilsonham.
