Tender chosen for cottages
A project that has been seven years in the making can finally go ahead after the tender was selected for stage 2 of the Brunswick River Cottages redevelopment.
Civilcon WA has been named as the successful tender for the $2.5 million project, with work set to begin at the Clifton Road site early next month.
Harvey shire president Tania Jackson said she was pleased the cottages were progressing.
“We’re looking forward to that project going ahead and a lot of people in the community are too,” Cr Jackson said.
“It’s been a long time coming.”
Planning for the expansion of the Brunswick River Cottages development has been in the pipeline for several years, with applications made to the State Government for funding.
The project was granted $2.5 million before the 2017 State election, which was scrapped with the change in government.
The State Government allocated $1.5m in January last year and the cottages committee approached the Harvey Shire Council to fill the gap, which was granted in the form of a $750,000 loan in December.
In July last year a Royalties for Regions grant of $1.5 million was awarded to the project to construct eight new rental units on the current Brunswick River Cottages site.
Bunbury firm Civilcon was selected out of a pool of six tenders.
The company is currently working on the rebuild and construction of the Yarloop Community Centre.
Funding for stage 2 of the development is included in the council’s 2018/19 Budget.
Funding for the “lease for life” units is by way of a self-supporting loan will be included in the council’s 2019/20 Budget.
