Tennis community gathers in Brunswick to celebrate official opening of new courts

It was smiles and rallies all around at the Brunswick Tennis Club last week as the community celebrated the official opening of the new courts.
Club members, Shire of Harvey staff, Tennis West representatives and the wider community came together to socialise, celebrate, and most importantly, play tennis.
Sharing her excitement with those attending, club president Julianne Hill said it was lovely to see the new courts filled with people.
“It has been a really long time that these courts have been out of action,” she said.
“Two and half years and in that time I think most of our committee and lots of our members thought we might not get them open again.”
Hill thanked all the groups and individuals who had contributed to the court refurbishments, and said the tennis club itself had been strong, passionate advocates in ensuring the courts were finished.
With 42 kids taking part in Tuesday evening’s junior tennis, Hill said she hoped to see the numbers increase.
Shire president Michelle Campbell said she was delighted to officially welcome the Brunswick Tennis Club back to their home.
“The Shire of Harvey delivers many infrastructure projects, but the passion, determination and the energy that brought this redevelopment to life is truly unique to the Brunswick Junction community,” she said.
“This is a community that shows up for one another, that values strong investment in sport and recreation spaces. “
Cr Campbell said the spirit evident at the club was unlike anywhere else.
“The commitments shown by the clubs long-standing committee members and supporters throughout this redevelopment is truly unmatched,” she said.
“Through their advocacy, research and determination, the club has ensured this facility will remain a vibrant part of the Brunswick Junction community for generations to come.”
The new courts can be booked online. Pickleball is held at the courts on Saturdays at 4pm and social tennis on Sundays at 4pm.
