Torrian Michael Daglas ordered to pay repair costs for Harvey Police Station chair damage

A man has been forced to cough up the money to repair a wooden chair located outside a South West police station after a late-night visit. Torrian Michael Daglas, 37, appeared before Harvey Magistrates Court on August 7 where he plead guilty to one count of criminal damage. The prosecution told the court at 1.56am on July 18, Daglas was sitting on a wooden bench outside of Harvey Police Station on Uduc Rd when he etched the words ‘selfless’ into the bench. The incident was captured on CCTV. Daglas’ defence lawyer told the court his client had come to the station to ask an officer a question and did not receive a response. He had offered to personally repair the chair but the station had declined it. Magistrate Benjamin Tyers described Daglas’ damage as a “expensive act”. “It is something of a pointless act of vandalism and you clearly didn’t think it through,” he said. “It doesn’t make sense as to why you wrote on it.” Daglas was ordered to pay Harvey police $600 in compensation. He was also fined $300, ordered to pay $137.50 in court costs.
