WA artist Evan Ayres set to perform Valentine’s Day show at Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre

It may not be in the front of mind for some, but Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. If you have completely forgotten about the annual celebration of romance, there is still time to organise something for the special day. For those who are more musically inclined, a musical performance in Harvey may be just what you are after. WA singer Evan Ayres is set to serenade audiences at the Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre on February 14 with a show full of Morning Melodies. Ayres said it was a pleasure to be performing in the town. “I absolutely love playing in Harvey — it is always such a great crowd and everyone is so friendly,” he said. “I’ve played everywhere from Menzies, to El Questro, Esperance and everything in between, and nine times out of 10 it’s the smaller towns who are the most appreciative.” The Albany-born and raised product said audiences could expect “a bit of everything” from his performance, with a mixture of music ranging from jazz to pop, some rock ‘n’ roll, and even a bit of country. There may even be a bit of smooth sax playing for audiences to enjoy. “I’ll bring my huge, diverse repertoire, and spontaneity,” he said. “I also promise that it won’t be ‘background music’. I’ll be putting on a ‘show’ with all my jokes, banter and charisma.” There will be some original songs from the young artist, who also performs with The Swinging Kings when not being a one-man show. When asked why he describes his solo shows as “Michael Buble meets Ed Sheeran”, Ayres said it was an indication of the show’s diverse repertoire. “It’ll be me singing and playing guitar with loop pedal to layer drum beats on the guitar, along with a stomp box,” he said. “As well as playing a couple of his songs in the set, Ed Sheeran was the inspiration behind deciding to start using the loop pedal. “Buble is the inspiration behind the white tux and the swing element of the show.” The performance is the first of a number at the centre for 2023 which has received an $80,000 boost from the State Government to support its performing arts slate this year.
