Wallam Watch: Donnell Wallam records 64-goal haul to help Queensland Firebirds to second win of the season

A massive 64-goal haul from Harvey’s Donnell Wallam has helped the Queensland Firebirds to their second win of the 2023 Super Netball season, defeating the Collingwood Magpies 73-67 in a thriller. The Firebirds hosted the Magpies during round eight of the season at Nissan Arena on Saturday, where the Firebirds’ ferocious defensive pressure and unstoppable attack proved too hot for the Magpies to handle. The Firebirds came firing out the gate in the first quarter, with Wallam nailing the opening goal from a strong feed from teammate Lara Dunkley, followed by a lay-up several minutes later to give the Firebirds a three-goal advantage. While Wallam was a dominant force inside the goal circle early on, the Magpies fought back, with the contest becoming a back and forth battle, eventually drawing level at 15 apiece by quarter-time. Although the Magpies took the lead for the first time during the second quarter to lead 37-35, the Firebirds wrestled back control during the third term. Wallam nailed a goal on the buzzer as the Firebirds sealed victory 73-67. Wallam finished with 64 goals from 65 shots and a super shot, along with a rebound, three feeds and six turnovers.
