Harvey product Donnell Wallam was excellent as Queensland Firebirds registered their first win of the Super Netball season with a three-point win over Giants Netball at Nissan Arena on Saturday.

The Firebirds were on the wrong end of a close result against Adelaide Thunderbirds to start their season, but were on the right side of another nailbiter in their home opener, winning 65-62.

Wallam’s connection with wing attack Lara Dunkley looked in fine order and she shot the ball exceptionally well, nailing 51 of her 57 attempts, including one in the dying embers of the game to seal the result.

She also converted two of her three super shot attempts to give her 55 points on the night.

Wallam’s strong shooting helped her side out to an early 10-point lead but the Giants stormed home late to narrow the gap to two points.

The Firebirds’ next assignment comes in the form of NSW Swifts at home on Sunday, with the game getting under way at 12pm.
