As the 2023 Super Netball season starts turning its attention towards finals, Harvey’s Donnell Wallam has been kept quiet at the hands of the Adelaide Thunderbirds. The Queensland Firebirds went head to head with the Adelaide Thunderbirds at the Netball SA Stadium on Saturday, where the Thunderbirds continued their meteoric rise from their seventh-place finish last year with a 63-46 victory over the Firebirds. Although both sides started with confidence, the Thunderbirds capitalised on a few misses from the Firebirds to build a small lead. Strong one-on-one defence from the Firebirds forced a held ball and Wallam rewarded her defensive end, draining the first Super Shot of the game and levelling the score at 10 apiece. However, both sides showed no sign of backing down early, finishing the first quarter at 12-all. Although the Thunderbirds fought back and held a two-goal lead by half-time, the Firebirds were ready to change things up for the second half with Mia Stower put into wing attack and feeding strong long-range balls into Wallam under the post throughout the third quarter. Strong feeds and important intercepts helped the Firebirds set up a tough challenge for the Thunderbirds after maintaining a two-goal margin by three-quarter time. Determined to record their seventh win of the season, the Thunderbirds put their foot down during the final quarter, outscoring the Firebirds 24-9 for the term. Wallam finished with 24 goals from 29 shots, five Super Shots, two rebounds, a feed and eight turnovers.
