Wallam Watch: Harvey’s sharpshooter put under pressure by overwhelming Swifts defence in Super Netball loss

In the midst of going up against one of Super Netball’s top contenders, Harvey’s Donnell Wallam found herself under pressure as the Queensland Firebirds fell short of causing an upset against the NSW Swifts. The Swifts dominated from the outset to clinch the minor premiership in emphatic fashion with a 78-65 victory over the Firebirds at Nissan Arena on Sunday. While the Swifts had good pressure during a tight first quarter, the Firebirds remained calm and found Wallam to open up the match. However, the 29-year-old was soon put under pressure by Swifts’ Sarah Klau as she pushed Wallam higher up the court. The mounting defensive pressure from Klau continued throughout the match, until Wallam and teammate Mia Stower combined to breathe life into the Firebirds during the final term. Despite their best efforts, the Firebirds were unable to narrow the gap, going down by 13 goals. Wallam finished with 34 goals from 38 shots, six Super Shots, three goal assists, six rebounds and seven turnovers.
