Waroona Amateur Basketball Association wraps up for 2022 with heart-stopper between Bush Chooks and Kings

The Waroona Amateur Basketball Association has wrapped up its court play for 2022 with some close matches for spectators. Round 10 of this summer’s season was played at the Waroona Recreation and Aquatic Centre on Wednesday, with four of the six scheduled matches going ahead. In the senior men’s competition, the Bulls and the Bush Chooks had a nail-biting match, with the game being decided by one point. While the Bulls had a resurgence in the second half, the Bush Chooks emerged victors with a final result of 39-38. Bailey Gallop had a strong game for the Bulls, scoring 20 points. Craig Milward scored 13 points to be the highest point scorer for the winning side. The second-placed Kings had a strong performance against the Warriors, winning the game 62-47. Keelan Hinchcliffe (19 points), Jaxon Comito (17 points) and Travis Durnin (15 points) all produced strong results during the game. Ezekiel Jetta (18 points) put up an acceptable showing for the Warriors. The Suns forfeited their match against the Magic side, who remain undefeated going into 2023. In the senior women’s competition, the second half of the match between the Cruisers and the Blue Birds was low-scoring compared to the first half. It was the undefeated Cruisers that got over the line with a 23-19 final result. Taneeka De Ridder (12) and Alexia Cicolari (12) were the highest point scorers of the game. The match between the Slammers and the Kings was a more one-sided result, with the former going down 11-35. Young Bloods players did not make a final appearance on the court for 2023 after the Group Therapy team forfeited their match. Players will enjoy a four week break over the festive season, with all teams but Magic and the Kings to return to the court on January 11.
