Waroona, Community invited to annual Australia Day Commemorations for 2024

Shire of Waroona residents are encouraged to “Reflect, Respect and Celebrate” at Australia Day celebrations on Friday, January 26.
The community can choose from the events in Waroona, Lake Clifton, and Preston Beach.
Waroona celebrations will kick off from 7.30am at the Waroona Memorial Hall.
A cooked breakfast, thanks to the Waroona Lions Club, is available to purchase along with a coffee from The Big Coffee Van.
There will be lots of family-friendly entertainment in the morning including Redz Zoo2U and some of their furry and not-so-furry friends, giant bubble entertainment, lawn games, and music from Cinty-Anne Dwyer.
The Just Cruizin Street Machiners will have their cars on display throughout the morning and will be joined by Fire and Emergency Services, St John Ambulance Waroona, and the Waroona police for a street parade at 9am.
The supper room in Memorial Hall will host an exhibition of art and craft by local artists and makers relating to the community’s life, flora, and fauna.
The official Australia Day Awards ceremony will begin at 9.30am with a Welcome to Country and Flag-Raising followed by the presentation of the Australia Day Community Citizen of the Year Awards and the Shire of Waroona, Meritorious Community Service Awards.
Residents in Lake Clifton can attend a Flag-Raising at the Lake Clifton Community Hall at 8am, followed by breakfast at 8.30am. There will also be some family-friendly activities on offer organised by the Lake Clifton-Herron Residents Association.
Preston Beach residents are invited to a free barbecue lunch from 12pm at the Preston Beach Community Centre organised by The Preston Beach Progress Association.
Shire president Mike Walmsley said the shire will continue the tradition of reflecting on Australia’s enviable way of life and building the connections that foster inclusiveness and community strength.
“A special part of these events is highlighting the committed volunteers for their contribution,”Cr Walmsley said.
“I sincerely encourage all our residents to attend any of the Australia Day celebrations across the shire.”
The events are supported by the Shire of Waroona and Alcoa Australia.
