A much-anticipated community facility in Waroona is inching closer to construction, with progress being made on project.

The Shire of Waroona has moved the Waroona Community Precinct to the tender stage, in one of the two remaining steps to go before construction work can commence.

As part of the step, the council will be asking contractors to come forward with offers to build the precinct.

The tenders are for the landscape and civil works for the precinct, which include the construction of a skate park and pump track, play equipment, picnic areas and a six seasons Noongar garden.

Waroona Shire president Mike Walmsley said the council was hoping to have the precinct opened in December next year.

“The local community contributed to fundraising for the precinct and I know there will be a great deal of enthusiasm to see construction moving along,” he said.

“We foresee completion by the end of next year, with a fabulous opening party and ribbon cutting celebration.”

The precinct will link South Western Highway to Fouracre Street and provide a new recreational area for all community members.

It is hoped the new precinct will act as a vibrant hub for local residents as well as a must-stop point for visitors to the area.

Tenders for the project will need to be submitted by January, with the council planning to vote on the successful applicant or applicants at the February council meeting.

Construction is expected to take most of next year.

The precinct is being funded through contributions from the State and Federal governments, Lotterywest, the Shire of Waroona, Alcoa and the Lions Club of Waroona.
