The Waroona community is being invited to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year next week as the Waroona Lions Club Christmas Gala returns for 2023. Drakesbrook Place will come alive on December 8 with market stalls, food vendors, kids entertainment and the Waroona Lions Train to lead the festivities. Event coordinator Lisa Fry said the gala would include kids activities, face painting, Old McDonald’s Farm animals and Little Diggers, alongside performances by the Mandurah Concert Band. Market stalls and food vendors will also be available for attendees to enjoy. Ms Fry said the event was organised to “bring people in the community together and for everyone to have a good time”. Helping the Waroona Lions Club in preparations for this year’s event is the Waroona Community Men’s Shed, which has made and donated a timber Christmas tree for the community to use. Ms Fry said the event was about people coming along and getting in the Christmas spirit. “(It’s about) having a bit of time with family and meeting new people like this,” she said. “It’s good for new members of the community so they can come and interact and meet new people and just have a sing along.” Santa will be escorted by St John WA volunteers, police officers and fellow community members before he joins in the family entertainment about 7.30pm. The Shire of Waroona, Alcoa and Charles Hull Contracting are among the community supporters helping to bring the event together. Festivities kick off at 5pm.
