Waroona’s Pinjarra Bakery store celebrates after franchise claims top honour

People in Waroona now officially have the best pie in the nation at their doorstep. The chunky pie from the Pinjarra Bakery — which has one of its four stores in Waroona — was named the best plain pie at the 2021 Great Aussie Pie Competition. Pinjarra Bakery Waroona manager Bianca Parker said locals were hyped the franchise had received the honour. “The weather is nice and everyone has heard about the win, so they are like ‘let’s go try it’,” she said. “It’s all over Facebook, there’s a hype. “Everyone knows about the (Pinjarra Bakery) and as soon as you say you work here, they tell you it’s the best, it’s cool. “As soon as we open we are just flat out. “Coffees, pies, salads; it’s just non-stop.” This is the second time the pie shop has taken the award after bakers Paul Pantaleo and Darren Rowe claimed the same prize in 2019. “It’s a massive thing; this is probably the most prestigious award in the baking game and to be named the best pie in Australia there’s not a much better accolade you can get. It means the world to us and we hope people can come and try one of these amazing pies and hopefully they enjoy it,” Mr Pantaleo said. “(Last time we won) we had people coming from all over WA to try a pie, people ringing up to try to get pies sent over east. The word gets out and people are pretty keen to give it a try.”
