Whiskey and Boots head to Harvey for the Bystander project to share the spirit of the town’s characters

Delving into the lives of some of Harvey’s most treasured locals, The Bystander Project transforms real-life Harvey experiences into a live stage performance. After spending three weeks walking the streets of Uduc Road and interacting with locals aged from eight to 95, Perth-based performance company Whiskey and Boots will share the lives and intricate details of some of the town’s characters. The final amalgamated stage performance will showcase stories from 10 Harvey residents leaving audiences immersed in original live music and dramatic storytelling. Producer Georgia King said she enjoyed her time in the South West and the show would reveal a bit more about the lives of Harvey residents as well as their relationship with the town. “There are people in our community that we see everyday we might say hello to, we might see in the shop, we might see at the pub, but we don’t necessarily know their backstory,” she said. “This show scratches beneath the surface and looks a little bit deeper into those people’s everyday lives, and in doing that brings a little bit more empathy to the people that we see and know.” Shire president Paul Gilett said The Shire is pleased to be involved in such an innovative and engaging project, highlighting some of the stories of residents living in the Shire. Based on the premise that everyone has a story to tell, the performances will unveil a diverse range of experiences from the ten everyday people chosen for Bystander Harvey,” he said. Whiskey and Boots’ Mark Storen, Georgia King, Holly Garvey and Thomas Garvey hit the stage on October 22 and 23 for two performances at the Harvey Recreational and Cultural Centre.
