Motocross rider Bailey Smith rides out of the 2019 season as a State Champion.

The 15-year-old from Cookernup placed first in the Enduro State Championship and third in the WAMX State Championship in November.

Bailey has been riding for seven years and said his love of racing came from watching the sport on TV as a child.

“I just saw someone racing and thought I would love to do that,” Bailey said.

His parents Shauna Smith and Stuart Clark said they were proud of their son.

“He’s been really committed this year and his hard work and dedication has paid off,” Ms Smith said.

Bailey’s parents also admitted to sometimes getting scared as they watch their son race.

However, the Bunbury Motocross Junior Club Champion said he had only ever broken a finger.

The physically demanding sport sees up to 40 competitors take to the tracks, a sport which the young rider says requires good balance and skill.

Bailey has also been sponsored by Bunbury Yamaha for five years.

When he’s not riding motorbikes, Bailey said he enjoyed wakeboarding.

Bailey will take part in a motocross coaching clinic in Perth on December 20.
