ACT records 1601 new cases, one death

The death toll from COVID-19 in the national capital has risen to 19 after a woman in her 50s became the ACT's latest fatality with the virus.

Canberra recorded 1601 new cases of COVID-19 in the past reporting period.

Of the new cases, 878 were from PCR tests while 723 were from rapid antigen tests.

The number of active cases in Canberra has also dropped slightly to 3205.

However, the number of patients in hospital with COVID has risen above 50 for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

There are now 52 patients in Canberra hospitals, with four in intensive care and two on ventilators.

Nearly one-third of Canberrans aged 18 and over have received their booster shot, with 30.5 per cent having had a third dose.

The ACT also has the highest rate of child vaccines in the country, with 26.8 per cent of five to 11-year-olds having received their first dose.

Meanwhile, the territory government received a shipment of 50,000 rapid antigen tests on the weekend.

The new tests will be handed out at clinics across the territory and to health workers.

But one of Canberra's testing clinics in the city's north remains closed due to ongoing supply issues of PCR tests.

Other clinics are operating as normal.
