Coronavirus crisis: Italians banned from travelling to Australia over COVID-19 fears

Australia will place a travel ban on Italian visitors from 6pm on Wednesday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced.

Italy has fast become the world’s biggest coronavirus hub after China, with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte putting the entire country into lockdown on Monday.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has already placed do-not-travel restrictions on China, Iran and the Republic of Korea.

Foreign nationals are not allowed to enter Australia if they have been at any of those countries in the past 14 days.

Australian citizens who have travelled to these countries are still able to enter, but will be required to self-isolate for 14 days upon returning home.

In WA, all school-related overseas travel was banned last week by the Department of Education.
