Manjimup Rovers women lose a close one against Blackwood United, while men beaten convincingly by Harvey Hawks

The Manjimup Rovers went down in a hard fought loss to Blackwood United in the South West Soccer Association Ladies Reserves competition at the weekend. The Rovers went into the clash on Sunday in third place on the ladder and one point ahead of the United side and were eager to earn some points on the road to stay in touch with top-two sides Bunbury United and Australind. But the Blackwood side was able to hold on at home, claiming a tough 4-3 win. Rovers star Delyth Phillips Johns was named best on ground, while Alicia Gluck and Erin Buckley were awarded runner up for their never-say-die efforts throughout the match. An undermanned Manjimup men’s side travelled to Harvey to face the SWSA Division One league-leading Hawks on Sunday. The Rovers went into the match with just one win for the season, while the Hawks side has won every match with a goal difference of 33 from the first two matches. The Hawks were ultimately too good on the day, beating the Rovers — who had only nine players — 10-0. The best on ground points were shared among the team, with the club thanking all players for their efforts against the strong Harvey side with less than 10 men.
