Bridgetown’s Kids Acting On Stage program had its end-of-year performance at the Bridgetown Repertory Theatre on Saturday, giving its participants a chance to demonstrate the skills they had learnt over the year.

The group put on eight different short plays to give each student the chance to be a part of at least two different plays.

Co-ordinator Anthony Fleming said the show aimed to teach participants stage craft. “The KAOS concert has been produced as any other production would be, so the kids have been taught stage art, so they understand stage etiquette, they understand stage directions,” he said.

“It’s as professional as we can get it for children of primary school age.”

His co-cordinator Tracey Fleming said the program was also about building confidence. “It’s not just about theatre, it’s about life skills, confidence and having fun” she said.

Riyana Diallo, 11, was cast in the Darling Buds of May and said KAOS had helped with her acting.

“We’ve done lots of acting and improv games and its been really fun,” she said.

Megan Boswell, 11, said KAOS had taught her a lot.

“You learn quite a lot from doing this, you learn how to project your voice and be nice and loud and slow down while your speaking to make sure everyone can understand you,” she said.

The program has run for a shorter time this year, as the group had to break for COVID-19.
