Great Northern’s colts squad has been announced as the players prepare to head to Perth for this week’s Nutrien Ag Solutions Country Championships.
The championships kick off later this week with the colts competing against some of the best young regional talent in the State for the division one title.
On Monday night, the players were presented with their jumpers before they travel to Perth, with the colts competition kicking off on Thursday at Scotch College.
Starting with an initial squad of about 50 players, coach Gerard Marquis eventually condensed the squad to the final 27-man selection over the last few weeks. Chapman Valley’s Daniel Borgogno and Towns’ Dale Baynes were named as assistant coaches.
Marquis said he was pleased with the squad selected and the level of talent available.
“The squad is filled with not only league playing regulars, but star league players for their respective clubs,” he said.
“We will look to be fast and high pressure around the ball, with an exciting array of players up forward to try and convert to winning scores.
“I learned some valuable lessons on the bigger associations last year and look forward to changing up our tactics to come out with a couple of wins and hopefully playing for the championship on Friday.”
Last year, Great Northern finished third after defeating Great Southern in the play off 4.13 (37) to 5.4 (34) at East Fremantle Oval.
Great Northern open the 2026 Country Championships at Scotch College against Regional Districts at 10am on Thursday, followed by South West and Peel later in the day.
Pending the results on day one, Great Northern will play for either the title or third place in the deciders on Friday.
Great Northern will also send seven umpires to officiate the tournament.
