Hundreds of hungry punters showed up at Narrogin’s John Higgins Community Centre for a multicultural festival of food on Saturday.
The centre was full to the brim for the Community Food Festival run by the charity Divine You in partnership with the Shire of Narrogin.
Dishes from around the world including Thailand, India, Fiji, the Philippines, Vietnam and Australia were served up by charity members, all working out of the community centre’s kitchen.
So many folk turned up for the feast, the live music and dancing, that the food was eaten up before the end of the event.
Divine You founder Sister Sahaya had hoped 300 people would attend and she was probably right on the money as locals and visitors joined the throng.
She was delighted with the turnout and with Perth’s Morley Senior High School students who volunteered to help during their service camp as part of their community studies.
“It was a great success, especially having all young people,” she said.
“It was unity in diversity.
“The Young Leos from Morley Senior High School were excellent; they wore national costumes from Myanmar, India and Indonesia and spoke in their national languages.
“They were beautiful kids.
“It was a marvellous event and all the food was eaten, there was not a scrap left.
“Thank goodness we had an Aussie barbecue!”
The Divine You charity works with children and the homeless and runs a food distribution centre for those in need.
Divine You organised the Community Food Festival with help from a grant from the Shire of Narrogin’s community chest grant scheme.
