Outrageous footage has emerged of a man dangling from the top of Elizabeth Quay’s 22m-high pedestrian bridge before appearing to lose his grip and plunging into the Swan River.

The man clambered up the suspension bridge’s cable to its peak while passers-by on the walkway and on the water below looked on horrified.

In the footage, posted on The Bell Tower Times’ Facebook page late yesterday, it appears the man narrowly misses hitting the footpath and a boat passing under the bridge when he fell.

The condition of the man is not known.

A spokesman for the design and development agency behind Elizabeth Quay Bridge, DevelopmentWA, said they would “definitely be investigating” the incident.

“And we will be seeking further advice from police,” they said.

WA Police said there was no current investigation as a formal trespass complaint was yet to be made.
