A kayaker has been taken to hospital after being rescued off Safety Bay near Rockingham.

Police were alerted to an emergency position indicating radio beacon activated about 500m from the Safety Bay Yacht Club just before 6pm.

The Rockingham Marine Rescue went to the scene, along with an RAC rescue helicopter.

The chopper managed to spot the kayaker — a man believed to be in his 60s — treading water after being separated from his kayak.

Rockingham Marine Rescue rescued the man before taking him to the Bent Street boat ramp where St John paramedics were waiting.

The man was taken to Rockingham Hospital for assessment.

He was in a stable condition this morning.
