Broome reign after winning netball North West Championships

Broome have been crowned the best netball town in the North West after taking down Karratha in a nail-biter of a final at the North West Regional Championships.

The contest was held over three days from June 17-19 at the Fay Gladstone Netball Courts in South Hedland with teams from Broome, Karratha, Port Hedland and Paraburdoo taking part.

During the round robin stage of the tournament, Broome and Karratha proved a class above the rest with the Kimberley team notching up three wins and Karratha securing two.

Broome downed Paraburdoo in the semifinals while Karratha defeated their Pilbara rivals Port Hedland to advance to the final.

It was a nail-biter of a grand final with both clubs attacking at will but Broome were able to hold off Karratha to claim the crown 44-42.

Meanwhile the division two competition had teams from Newman, Broome, Karratha, Tom Price and Port Hedland face-off over a gruelling three days.

In the end it came down to Karratha and Newman in the grand final after securing three and four wins respectively.

Newman showed their class in the last dance, dominating Karratha across the four quarters to run away with the victory 55-28.

It was an all Pilbara final in the masters competition, with Port Hedland coming out on top of Karratha, 25-23.

Meanwhile in the junior divisions, Karratha defeated Broome 23-17 in the under-16s and took down Newman 36-13 in the under-14 competition.

The final junior division was the under-12s with Broome downing Port Hedland 18-16.
