Harvey club is music to Peter’s ears

AFTER decades with clubs and bands throughout the State, musician Peter Grout is looking to strike a similar chord and form a country music club in Harvey.

Mr Grout moved to Harvey three years ago and has played with a number of music clubs over the years, as a founding member of the Armadale Country Music Club in the 1980s.

“Four of us got together in a pub and after about five years it was the biggest one in the metropolitan area,” he said.

Mr Grout said he was happy to explore any type of music including folk, apart from rock and heavy metal, and is looking for other interested musicians in the area.

“I’m into any type of music really,” he said.

“You never really know what could come out of it.”

Mr Grout said Australia had a great folk song history which was rarely explored, with much of the commonly known songs being of Irish and British origin, and it was something he would like to try.

“It’s hard to find someone with traditional Australian stuff too, lots of people have any number of the old English and Scottish songs,” he said.

“Our biggest folk song historian was Slim Dusty.

“I’d like to find someone who appreciates what he’s done.”

Mr Grout said he had met a number of musicians in the area and was hoping to get together with others for a chat and a strum.

“There’s a lot of people around that do it, it just needs a little catalyst to kick it off,” he said.
