Kenneth John Ryan: Ex-convict threatens to kill police officers and throws brick through sister’s window

An ex-convict who threw a brick through his sisters window, and called police officers c...s before launching a Bluetooth speaker at their car, has received a community-based order. Kenneth John Ryan, 51, pleaded guilty to obstructing police and two counts of criminal damage in the Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday. Police prosecutor Sgt Ross Gray said Ryan was intoxicated when he approached his sister’s house on Utakarra Road at 11pm, yelling and demanding for his mobile phone. Ryan’s sister and her son told him to leave because her grandchild was asleep inside, and he threw a brick through the window of the house and walked off, the court heard. When police found Ryan, he jumped into a fighting stance at officers and said “go on, I’ll kill you c....s. Sgt Gray said he damaged the windshield of a police vehicle by throwing a Bluetooth speaker at it. The court was told Ryan was released from prison in 2022 and had a lengthy history of criminal damage. Defence counsel Alex Dew said Ryan was grieving over his mother’s recent passing and wanted to view pictures of her kept on the device. Mr Dew said while his client’s record didn’t assist him, Ryan had a problem with alcohol and would benefit from counselling and other services in the community.
