People from across the State will converge in Brunswick at the weekend to celebrate nine decades of a beloved historical site.
On Saturday, a special community afternoon tea filled with trips down memory lane will be held at the Brunswick Town Hall to mark the 90th anniversary of its opening.
The hall was officially opened in 1936 on July 22, with an article from the South Western Times stating the first function was held at 3pm, when it was first opened by Sir James Mitchell.

Lorraine Stone grew up in Brunswick and said the hall had been a hub for all of her outings.
“We had a fancy dress ball every year where we had to learn to do the Maypole Dance,” she said.
“The ladies decorated hoops with crepe paper, flowers and we had to do an interwoven walk with the hoops.”
From school concerts, to weddings, dances and balls, long-time resident Michael Italiano said the hall held lots of memories.
Open to all, Saturday’s celebrations will be held from 1-4pm, showcasing the hall’s rich history and honouring special memories and milestones shared between the community over the years.

It will include historical photo displays, a wedding gown exhibition and a tribute to the picture-show days at the hall.
The Brunswick Singers will provide entertainment during the afternoon, while a special birthday cake will be cut to mark the occasion.
A special souvenir booklet will also be available for purchase on the day.
Subcommittee member Leesa Sutherland has been one of many volunteers helping to organise the celebrations and said she had been delighted to work alongside a wonderful subcommittee to prepare for the special occasion.
“Celebrating the significant contributions of those who came before us and welcoming back their family and friends on the 18th of July to celebrate 90 years of our historic hall, brings me so much joy,” she said.
“This milestone belongs to everyone who has ever been part of the hall’s story.”
The celebrations will continue later in the year, with a back to the 50s and 60s event set to take place in September.
