SWFL: Harvey Bulls league side fail to register score against Donnybrook, women’s outfit seal top spot

Harvey Bulls went into the South West Football League record books for all the wrong reasons in their 72-point loss to Donnybrook on Saturday, becoming the first ever side to go through a league match without registering a score. On a rain-saturated Harvey Recreation Ground, the hosts failed to get the ball across the goal-line of the Dons even once, with the scoreboard reading 11.6 (72) to 0.0 (0) at the final siren. Boyanup-Capel-Dardanup — now Eaton — had owned the record for nearly 50 years after scoring one point in a 1977 game, with the Bulls’ previous lowest score in the SWFL being nine points against the same opponent from the weekend in 2019. The Bulls still sit in eighth spot on the ladder, with ninth-placed Dunsborough on the bye while 10th-placed Eaton and 11th-placed Collie also suffered heavy defeats. On a low-scoring day, the winners did their work early, kicking five goals in the opening quarter to take a 35-point lead into the first break. * The women’s result was far more positive, with the Bulls guaranteeing they will finish in top spot on the ladder with a 29-point win over Donnybrook. Harvey held an opponent goalless for the sixth time this season in a 4.7 (31) to 0.2 (2) victory which moves them two wins clear in first position, an insurmountable lead with second-placed Busselton having only one game remaining. Rachel Wright, Larissa Versaci and Trinity Brown (one goal) shone brightly for the winners in the gloomy conditions, while star Jessica Verbrugge gave her all for the visitors.
