A spearfisherman has had a close call with a 3m great white in WA’s south.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development issued a shark warning for Dolphin Cove — in Cape Arid National Park — in the Shire of Esperance, after reports that the monster predator “interacted” with a spearfisherman about 12pm on Sunday.

The spearfisherman was not hurt.

“Take additional caution in the Dolphin Cove, Cape Arid National Park area,” a DPIRD spokesperson said.

“Use your Sea Sense and stay informed by checking for shark activity on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app or follow @SLSWA on X.”

DPIRD is continuing to monitor the situation.
