Rockingham’s Pink Ladies are gearing up to walk up to 35km in support of cancer research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

The institute is dedicated to finding answers to defeat several diseases including women’s cancers.

As part of the annual Hawaiian Walk for Women’s Cancer, the Pink Ladies are holding a fundraising stall at Rockingham Foreshore near Steel Tree Cafe on Sunday from 8am to 3pm.

This year’s walking challenge will take place over seven days to represent the one-in-seven women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Participants can choose to walk a few kilometres each day or save it up and walk 35km at once.

The fundraising stall will include raffles, a chocolate wheel and holiday accommodation prizes up for grabs. Thor Of Perth will make an appearance for the kids at 11am, and a guest speaker from the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research will also attend.

Pink Ladies team members Kristy Ryan and Kaelee Edwards will start their 30km walk along the foreshore at 8am, while Vicky Stuart, Shanelle Peace and Lyn Bathgate will also begin their walk and aim to cover 35km over the week.

Ms Stuart, who is currently undergoing treatment, said she was “doing this for all the amazing women in our lives that have been impacted by cancer”.

“The connections we have made with people about women’s cancer has been amazing,” she said.

“There’s been a lot of tears and a lot of laughter as well.

“We walk for them.

“For those we have lost, those currently undergoing treatment and the survivors.”
