A teenage girl was lucky to escape with only minor injuries when she was hit by a car on a busy highway this morning.

St John Ambulance rushed to Warnbro Sound Avenue in Port Kennedy at 8.24am as the incident unfolded.

Both police and ambulance arrived.

The girl was assessed at the scene and found to have minor abrasions, according to a St John Ambulance spokeswoman.

She was later taken to Rockingham hospital.
