Grant helps Collie Men’s Shed tap into tech potential

Collie Men’s Shed members will be able to become more tech-savvy after a grant allowed them to buy new equipment.

Funding from Synergy’s 2020 Collie Small Grants Program allowed the men’s shed to expand its activities by installing two new computers, which will help members improve their skills and computer knowledge.

Collie Men’s Shed chair Ian Bushell said the members appreciated the funding and the new computers they were able to purchase with it.

He said the new computers would allow members to work on different projects at their own pace and master new computing skills.

The members appreciate the grant and are using the computers on a continual basis.

The men’s shed was one of nine recipients of the grants program earlier this year, with support provided to a range of sporting, social, health and emergency services groups including Collie Cricket Club, Collie Community Home Care and Mumballup/Noggerup Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Synergy manager thermal generation Mick Hill said it was fantastic to see the small grants program come to fruition once again.

“The Collie Men’s Shed has traditionally been focused on providing wood and metal work activities, but now with the new computers, members have a greater opportunity to learn in new areas,” Mr Hill said.

“Synergy is a proud support of the Collie community and working with local groups like the Men’s Shed to foster skill development and social inclusion, is an important part of that commitment.”
