Members of Leschenault Leisure Centre over the age of 80 will now be able to have their gym membership fee waived following a decision made at the Harvey Shire Council meeting on Tuesday.

A proposal from the Living Legends program participants was presented to the council prior to the meeting which outlined the benefits of the exercise program for seniors.

The program which has been designed to improve strength, health and wellbeing was viewed as a positive initiative that encourages older members of the community to remain active while also providing social opportunities.

There are 16 members over the age of 80, including 97-year-old Vanda Murray, who recently signed up for her 11th annual membership at the centre.

Eight-year member Joy Parish said the Living Legends program is a great way for seniors to stay active and social.

“The Leschenault Leisure Centre is a wonderful gym with a positive atmosphere and we are so fortunate to have access to such a great facility,” Ms Parish said.
