Labor’s candidate for Forrest has made an election pledge to improve a notorious mobile reception black spot along Forrest Highway.

Bronwen English announced Labor would invest $750,000 to improve mobile coverage along the stretch of Forrest Highway near Australind.

In committing to the funding under an Albanese Labor government, Mrs English said quality mobile coverage was not a luxury, but an essential piece of 21st century infrastructure.

“Across the South West, local residents raise with me their concerns with connectivity issues at home, on the road and in their businesses,” Mrs English said.

“Labor’s investments will deliver better connectivity and a better future for the South West.”

She said this local investment would form part of a Labor Government’s broader plan to establish a $400 million fund to expand multi-carrier mobile coverage along roads, as well as for regional homes and businesses.

“Many people in the community have had a frustrating battle with poor mobile coverage and need a government that pays attention to local needs,” Mrs English said.

The Labor Party also plans to launch an independent $20m national audit of mobile coverage, which would include placing signal measurement devices on Australia Post’s vehicles to identify priority areas for improvement across WA.
