Recfishwest app used to help WA fishers gets major overhaul

Reeling in more that 200,000 users across the State, a “game-changing” fishing application has been rebuilt to include a database of fishing rules, fish species and interactive marine park maps. Recfishwest’s fishing rules app was designed to help WA fishers better access and understand complex rules and regulations around recreational fishing. After being rebuilt the app now includes GPS-interactive maps, locations of artificial reefs and fish aggregating devices as well as information on more than 240 fish species. Recfishwest operations officer and Australind angler Sam Russell said the app was the ultimate fishing tool for when you were “wetting a line”. “Whether fishing off Binningup for snapper or samson fish, or chasing trout in Harvey Dam or Drakesbrook Weir, the Recfishwest app is your go-to tool for quick access to the fishing rules,” he said. “The app’s a game-changer for helping fishers access and understand WA’s fishing rules — which certainly can be complex at times — whether you’re in phone range or not.” The app has seen support from the State Government and is one of Australia’s top recreational fishing apps with users able to access information with or without internet connection. Existing app users have been warned to screen-shot or record any licence or safety gear information they have stored in the app because it will not transfer across to the new version.
