Schools across the Shire of Harvey given solar panels to reduce bills and carbon emissions

Schools across the South West are set to go green after the State Government announced it would install solar panels at 84 schools across WA. Stretching from Harvey Primary School to Cape Naturalist College, the panels are part of a $44.6 million move to help public schools save on their power bills and help reduce carbon emissions. The Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund will see schools equipped with battery energy storage systems and smart Virtual Power Plant technology. Chosen based on operational and technical considerations, Harvey Primary School, Brunswick Junction Primary School, River Valley Primary School and Treendale Primary School, within the Shire of Harvey, were successful in the first funding round. Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke said the solar panels will not only help the schools save money on their power bills but also reduce their carbon emissions. “This provides Brunswick Junction PS and Harvey PS with an opportunity to teach students about renewable technologies,” she said. “I’m looking forward to visiting Brunswick Junction PS and Harvey PS and seeing their new solar panels in place.” Other South West schools set to house the panels are, Cape Naturaliste College, Darkan Primary School and South Bunbury Primary School, with funding applications opening again in Term 2.
