More than $90,000 in State Government funds will be used to reduce the risk of bushfires throughout the Shire of Harvey. Mitigation activities such as establishing fire breaks and access tracks and fuel reduction works will be implemented in the Harvey region thanks to the $91,157 from the State Government’s mitigation activity fund. Shire of Harvey president Paul Gillett said the fund gave vital financial support to local governments to help reduce bushfire risks. “Reducing the risk of bushfires in the shire is something we all need to be aware of and we encourage all property owners to be fire safe all year round,” he said. Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson said the program had proven to be a “highly effective” tool for improving annual fire mitigation activities. “Throughout WA, fire mitigation activities are essential to help prevent the loss of life and property when a catastrophic blaze may break out,” he said.
