Waroona’s Agricultural Society has selected its candidate to represent the town in the annual rural ambassador competition.
Tegan Strobl was announced as the Waroona Agricultural Society’s 2026 rural ambassador, a recognition she said was exciting to receive.
“I’ve been volunteering here with the ag society for a while and it’s just an amazing opportunity and really expanding me out of my comfort zone,” she said.
Through interviews, presentations and networking opportunities, the annual competition aims to support individuals passionate about agriculture and their community by helping build confidence, develop leadership skills and a better understanding of the agricultural industry.
Ms Strobl is set to contend in the South West zone section in August, competing for a spot in September’s State competition at the Royal Show.
The State winner will then represent WA at the national competition.
Ms Strobl said she looked forward to meeting new people and extend outside her comfort zone, while also wanting to encourage people to go out and volunteer.
“There’s so many benefits, not only (to) like yourself, but you’re helping your community and you’re going to meet so many great people along the way,” she said.
Describing the Waroona Show as her own version of Christmas Day, Ms Strobl has attended every year since her first show at six months old.
“Before I started volunteering at 12, I also put my show entries in the show and so that was one of my most exciting moments,” she said.
“Getting to the show and seeing all my entries and then also getting to see the farm shed and all the rides and activities and farm stores, it’s just a good day.”
Now volunteering in the children’s hall, Ms Strobl said she loved seeing the excitement on the children’s faces as they saw their entries on display.
Waroona Agricultural Society president Simone Magno said she was proud of Tegan and could not wait to see how the competition goes.
“She’s shown us such dedication to the agricultural society,” she said.
“Just her commitment to the community as well with her volunteering, not just here for our show but also in town.”
