A Bunbury woman has helped provide a lifeline to a local cancer charity by fundraising more than $20,000.

Kristy Borczuch found herself wanting to give back to the support service that helped her sister Nat when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012.

Solaris Cancer Care Bunbury became a place for Nat and her family to visit until she won her battle with the disease.

Ms Borczuch now makes cards to sell to raise money for Solaris — an effort that has seen her raise more than $6000 this year.

Since starting her fundraising in 2018, Ms Borczuch has cracked $20,000 and hopes to raise an additional $6000 before Christmas.

South West client services manager Hayley Tuck said Solaris provided free services at its three regional locations, but received minimal government funding and relied on the generosity of the community to keep its doors open.

“People like Kristy and our volunteers help make opportunities arise for others to give in their own ways,” she said.

“It can be lonely having a cancer diagnosis and that’s part of what the volunteers help with.”

Volunteer Rose Rose said the service provided support and connection to those undergoing treatment.
