In an effort to help pubs and clubs around WA, Australian brewing company Carlton & United Breweries has announced they will be doubling all funds raised through their latest campaign.

For the Love of Your Local is a CUB campaign that helps people support their favourite venue by buying a pint of beer, with all funds going directly to that venue.

Having already raised more than $1 million in cash for struggling pubs and clubs, CUB announced last week it will double the target to $2 million.

The Prince of Wales Hotel is one of the five watering holes in Bunbury in line to receive free beer from CUB.

“It means we get a bit of money while we’re closed and not able to operate and our customers are able to get something back,” general manager Jacqui Thorn said.

“Considering we aren’t even doing takeaway this gives our regulars and customers that option to support their local and get excited for when we are going to reopen.”

With a new menu in the works, Ms Thorn said she is looking forward to reopening the popular bar and pub.

“Typically we have people coming into the pub to socialise and have a pint with their mates, so for us to open and serve drinks with food was a bit of a challenge,” she said. “We didn’t want to open and offer a different kind of service and disappoint people.

“Our ideal situation is to open during Phase 3 and have people sitting down and catching up over a pint and adhering to the 1.5m rule.”

As restrictions continue to impact the West Australian hospitality industry, CUB CEO Peter Filipovic is encouraging any venues that need help to sign up to the campaign.

“Western Australian pubs and clubs have already been shut for two months and the fact is many of these beloved venues won’t make it through this crisis without extra help,” he said.

“So we’re calling on West Australians to help save their local and get free beer in the process.”

People can support their local by visiting loveofyourlocal.com.au, nominate their favourite venue and buy a pint of CUB beer, with all funds going directly to that venue.
