With her scissors and clippers at the ready, Dalyellup resident Jacqui Ainsworth will fly the flag for WA in a new dog grooming TV show.

Pooch Perfect, hosted by Rebel Wilson, will see competitors take part in different dog grooming challenges for their chance at the title of Australia’s Greatest Pet Stylist, a trophy and a $100,000 prize.

Ms Ainsworth has been grooming dogs for 17 years and turned her passion into a career after she found herself single.

Before becoming a professional groomer, Ms Ainsworth groomed casually to show standard poodles.

“Doing poodles really helps you know, and get a good idea for, anatomy and learn how to use the scissors and clippers properly,” she said.

Ms Ainsworth said she jumped at the chance to apply for the show after seeing it on a Facebook dog grooming page.

I thought my business could grow, maybe this would be good fun and I love reality TV, so I just thought it would be a good opportunity.

She said the show was way out of her comfort zone.

“I’m much more of a breed specialist groomer instead of creative,” she said.

“It was pretty daunting to be representing WA.”

Moving forward she hoped the show would open more doors for her business.

“It’s kind of a bit hard being down in Bunbury, it’s like we’re stuck on the edge of the world as far as grooming in Australia goes,” she said.

Ms Ainsworth will appear on Pooch Perfect tonight on Seven/GWN7.
